Westminster Society Trustee, Mrs Shirley Rodwell has been awarded an MBE in the Queens Birthday Honours List.
The Citation is:-
Shirley Julianne Rodwell
For voluntary services in the field of appeals and public relations, for people with learning disabilities in Westminster.

Shirley has been instrumental in using her unique abilities to raise funds and promote awareness of the charity since its conception in 1962.
On hearing that she was to receive the MBE for her work with the Society, she said "Without the amazing people who have joined the Board from the early days, and our highly skilled management and staff, none of this would have been possible. So I feel that the honour is due to everyone who has worked for, volunteered and supported the Society including Westminster City Council - over all these years.
It has been a huge privilege to see the growth from six young mothers in a Paddington flat to what the Society is and is able to achieve today. In the beginning my husband and I felt that if the charity was able to help only one parent with a learning disabled child, it would be well worth the voluntary effort. I am proud that we now have facilities to help so many learning disabled people of all ages and that two of our residences have been home for several years to two now-adult children of that pioneering group of young mothers."
The Westminster Society is delighted with the news, and would like to thank Shirley for all her dedicated work over the past 46 years.
