Supported Housing

Our Supported Housing Service enables individuals with learning disabitilies to experience as much independence as possible within a supportive environment.

Prior to moving into the service, each tenant has an assessment which looks at the skills necessary to live successfully in a Supported Housing service and more independently in the future. Both short and long term goals are set, and progress is reviewed every six months or more regularly as required.

The team supports individuals to pursue their goals by providing advice, information and practical support.

Each individual has their own plan in place and the supported housing team works with each tenant to support them as they develop skills and work towards reaching their personal aims and aspirations in all areas of their lives.

Aims

All people have rights, opportunities and responsibilities. Our aim is to ensure that people with learning disabilities can exercise their rights, use their opportunities and understand their responsibilities.

We believe that people with learning disabilities have the right to:

  • Inclusion - use mainstream services and be involved in the community.
  • Choice - receive information and support, to make decisions and take risks.
  • Consultation - tell us what they think and what they want. This will guide what we do.
  • Respect - enjoy private time, confidentiality and to be treated as an individual.
  • Achievement - gain personal satisfaction through social, learning and work opportunities.
  • Quality - receive person centred services supported by effective networks.

We seek to apply these values to everything we do.

Tenant Participation and Consultation

Tenants are actively encouraged to participate in tenants meetings, both in decisions that affect them personally and in the management of their home.

We use several systems to ensure that every tenant's voice is heard including:

  • Tenants Meetings - held on a weekly basis for any tenants interested in attending
  • Tenants Action Group - held on a monthly basis to discuss current organisational issues that arise
  • House Meetings - for shared housing services
  • Informal Discussions - held on a daily basis
  • Support Planning Meetings
  • Annual Tenant Satisfaction Surveys
  • Annual Risk Assessment Visits - 'Keeping My Home Safe'
