Registered Care Homes

Our Registered Care homes provide safe, supported housing for people with learning disabilities with physical, high care and complex needs requiring 24 hour support. Currently we manage 14 registered care homes, providing support specific to the needs of the individual.

Aims

Sarah JaneWe aim to promote the rights of the people using our services. We aim to support them to understand and accept their individual responsibilities and help them achieve their potential. We achieve this by providing a safe, supported and non - discriminatory environment where individuals are able to have opportunities, take calculated risks, develop relationships and greater independence within their home and the wider community.

Living Arrangements

Every Registered Care home is run by a team of people who provide opportunities and support for every person to be involved to the best of their ability in the domestic activities of the flat e.g. cooking, cleaning, shopping, laundry, etc.

Individual residents are supported to develop an awareness and understanding of personal space and privacy, and of health and safety issues within their home. They are encouraged to make decisions and be involved in implementing changes to their home environment e.g. decor, purchase of items, risk assessment.

In order to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to make decisions about the running of their home, we regularly consult with each resident through the Individual Planning system, regular house meetings, individual discussions with team members and each other, as well as through workers' input into team meetings.

Each person is supported to make informed choices about any future living arrangements including moving to more suitable accommodation.

Consultation

Service users are consulted about decisions and are encouraged to make their views known in a number of ways including:

  • Informal discussions on a one-to-one or group basis
  • Formal meetings (as appropriate)

  • House meetings, which subsequently feed into team meetings, management team meetings, service manager/senior manager meetings and committee/board meetings as appropriate

  • Westminster Society Service User's annual questionnaire
