'Let's Cook'

Let's Cook Book

Thanks to funding from The Westminster Primary Care Trust, we have been able to produce and distribute a healthy eating, easy to use cookbook to all our services.

 

A team of people with learning disabilities and staff members had great fun putting the cookbook together, especially when trying out the recipes. We are pleased to say that 'Let's Cook' has been a great success so far and is now available to all.

Why not have a go at making one of the recipes from the cook book below: 

Pasta Bake

Pasta Bake

This makes enough for 2 people and will take you 1 hour to cook


 

 

 

 

Equipment

  • 2 non stick saucepans
  • 1 sharp knife
  • 1 colander
  • 1 wooden spoon
  • 1 mug
  • 1 oven proof dish
  • 1 Baking tray
  • 1 tin opener

Ingredients

  • Pasta

For the filling:

  • 1 onion
  • 1 tin of tomatoes
  • 2 tins of tuna
  • 1 tin of sweetcorn
  • 1 teaspoon of marmite or Bovril
  • 1 small tin of tomato puree
  • 1 teaspoon of herbs ( fresh or dried)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Half a teaspoon of sugar
  • Worcester sauce

Instructions

  1. Turn the oven on to 200c / gas mark 6
  2. Peel and chop the onion as shown on page 9 of 'Let's Cook'
  3. Put the onion in to one of the non stick saucepans and place on the cooker on a high heat
  4. Stir as it is cooking to turn the onion brown
  5. Place pasta in the other saucepan with cold water, add a pinch of salt and put on cooker ring, on high, to boil
  6. Add the tin of chopped tomatoes, the onion, the sweetcorn, the fish stock cube, salt and pepper, sugar, mixed herbs and a teaspoon of Worcester sauce
  7. Turn the sauce down to low and add the small tin of tomato puree and stir in
  8. Strain the tuna through a colander and add to the sauce slowly
  9. Strain the pasta and put in the oven proof dish
  10. Put the tomato and tuna sauce over the pasta in the dish
  11. Put the dish on a baking tray and then in the oven for 15 minutes or until the top is brown
