The Westminster Society for People with Learning Disabilities aims to provide quality services and new opportunities for people with learning disabilities and their families in Westminster, which covers an area of central London with St. Johns Wood in the north of the borough, Pimlico in the south, Covent Garden in the east and Bayswater in the west.
A dedicated team of professional people, headed by Chief Executive Gabby Machell, run the Westminster Society. They are supported and guided in their work by the board of trustees. Find out more about the Westminster Society team.
We are continually developing the services we offer to people with learning disabilities and their families. Our current range of services include housing and community support as well as services for children and their families.
We have 11 registered care homes, 5 supported houses and 17 independent living flats. This enables over 90 people with learning disabilities to live in safe, supported housing. We also provide a drop in service as part of our City Living Westminster scheme.
We provide a variety of housing, with support tailored to the individuals needs. This can range from 24 hour support for people who need a high level of physical care to those who live independently with minimal support.
The Rainbow Family centre provides services for children with learning disabilities and their families. The facilities at the Rainbow Family Centre include:
We provide an outreach service to support people with learning disabilities living independently. This service (known as The Croxley Project) is for people living in their own home, or one managed by us, and it provides advice, support and information as well as holding a variety of social events.
Young people and adults with learning disabilities can access a range of educational and leisure activities. We have lots of groups meeting throughout the week, during the day, in the evening and at weekends. Our Short Break Outreach programme also provides respite for families and carers of children and adults with learning disabilities.
Every year we publish details of our activities in our annual report. The annual report is a summary of our activities in the past year and tells you what services we hope to develop in the coming year. Have a look at this year's annual report.
We believe that people with learning disabilities have the right to Inclusion, Choice, Consultation, Respect, Achievement and Quality. We try to apply these values to everything we do. Find out more about our mission and values.
